Jeans

The year denim was born takes us back to 1873 when Levis Strauss, a German immigrant, applied for a patent in the USA for the manufacture of robust work trousers. Levis Strauss recognized at an early stage the great need of gold miners for stable and resistant work trousers. Initially, brown sailcloths were used to make jeans and were immediately replaced by hard-wearing cotton fabric (canvas). This was imported from Nimes (France).
As a trademark he decided together with his partner and tailor Jacob Davis to dye the fabric indigo blue and decorated it with orange stitching. The blue jeans was born and the fabric was named denim after its place of origin.
After the end of the Second World War, the triumph of American jeans began in Europe too.
Hollywood actors James Dean and Marlon Brando in particular revived the trend for blue jeans in the 1950s.
To this day, the classic denim has become an indispensable part of the fashion world.
