Cord

Cord

The name "Cord" probably comes from the English term "Corduroy" (ribbed fabric). The cotton fabric with longitudinal ribs has its origin in Manchester, where cord was first machine-made in the mid-18th century, in the midst of industrialization. Since the fabric was robust and dirt-resistant, it became the workwear of the craftsmen.
Cord traditionally consists of 100% cotton, but it can also contain proportions of polyester, lycra or elastane (stretch cord).
The fiber used determines how soft cord is. The ribs can vary from super fine (corduroy - more than 50 ribs / 10 cm) to fine (fine cord, baby cord - 40-50 ribs / 10 cm) to robust and sporty (coarse cord - 10-25 ribs / 10 cm).
Similar to denim, cord can also be processed to create different fabric looks.
A distinction is made, for example, between the used look, in which the cord looks worn, and the vintage look, in which the fabric looks faded. Cord has always been a classic raw material in country style.
And since the early 1970s, it has been a fashion topic for everyone to this day.
